Financial Support
It is a long-held priority at Washington University School of Medicine to send graduates into the field with as little debt as possible.
The Office of Student Financial Planning provides personalized assistance that serves the unique financial needs of each School of Medicine student. Every program has specific funding that can be combined with federal loan options from the Department of Education.

Tuition varies by program; check the individual program’s website for information about the cost of education.
Medical education / MD programs
Each year, tuition is frozen for the entering class, so the cost for each student is the same each year for all four years of medical school. Merit-based scholarships are awarded by the Committee on Admissions. Need-based scholarships are awarded through the financial planning office. Loans are available to students who qualify based on completion of the FAFSA and the financial aid application.
On average, our medical students graduate with debt significantly lower than the national average. In fact, our graduates’ average indebtedness is perennially among the lowest of the 110+ most highly regarded medical schools in the country.
Other School of Medicine programs
For students enrolling in a program other than MD — e.g., audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, graduate programs — the financial planning office primarily provides federal student loan aid combined with any program-available scholarships, work-study and assistantships.
