Victor G. Dávila-Román, MD

Victor G. Dávila-Román, MD, professor of medicine, of anesthesiology and of radiology, is honored as an exceptional mentor for junior faculty.

As a national leader in cardiovascular imaging, hypertension and heart failure, he has mentored junior faculty at Washington University for over 25 years. And for nearly a decade, he also has mentored junior underrepresented-minority faculty who come to Washington University from across the country through a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded summer training program. On a global scale, he has grants from the NIH and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for research and training in several countries, and his work on the adverse health effects of household air pollution has advanced science, training and policy in several nations.

Dávila-Román is medical director of the Cardiovascular Imaging and Clinical Research Core Laboratory and associate director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center Clinical Science Research Core, both at Washington University. He has served on the American Society of Echocardiography Board of Directors and will soon be executive editor of Circulation Cardiovascular Imaging.

Dávila-Román earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1981. He completed an internship at Brooke Army Medical Center, served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a flight surgeon, and received the Army’s commendation medal. After completing his residency and fellowship at Washington University, he joined the faculty in 1989.
