Brophy named to orthopaedic surgery board
Sports medicine specialist elected to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Board of Directors

Sports medicine specialist Robert H. Brophy, MD, associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been elected to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Board of Directors. He was elected in March at the organization’s annual meeting.
In recent years, Brophy has served on numerous committees for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Orthopaedic Association and the Orthopaedic Research Society. He also was on the editorial board of The American Journal of Sports Medicine.
He earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and electronic engineering and a master’s degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University before earning his medical degree at Washington University. Brophy later completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
A former team physician for the St. Louis Rams, Brophy also was a four-year starter on the soccer team at Stanford.
With 39,000 members, the AAOS is the world’s largest association of musculoskeletal specialists, providing education programs for orthopaedic surgeons and allied health professionals.
