Dean’s Impact Awards recognize faculty for extraordinary efforts during pandemic

While the COVID-19 pandemic seemed to stop the world on its axis, those in medicine and biomedical science kept moving. Their tireless, noble efforts to innovate, test, treat, vaccinate and educate cannot be forgotten.
While everyone in every role at Washington University School of Medicine deserves recognition for remarkable work during the pandemic, the newly announced 2023 Dean’s Impact Awards recognize faculty whose extraordinary efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have had lasting impact, who demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and who delivered exceptional results across the missions of the School of Medicine.
“Recipients of the Dean’s Impact Awards represent the determination, adaptability, compassion and innovation required to lead through unprecedented times,” said Renée A Shellhaas, the David T. Blasingame Professor and associate dean of faculty promotions & career development. “These faculty are being recognized because their exceptional dedication and selfless responses to the pandemic went beyond expectations to make a difference for patients, schools, the community and well beyond.”
Added David H. Perlmutter, MD, the George and Carol Bauer Dean of the School of Medicine, executive vice chancellor for medical affairs, and the Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Distinguished Professor: “Here on the Medical Campus, our extraordinary faculty were on the front lines of every battle against COVID-19. The dedication they showed and the sacrifices they made for patients, students and humanity, for that matter, were nothing short of astounding. We at the School of Medicine want them to know how truly grateful we are.”
The award winners will be honored at a ceremony May 17.
