Diemer recognized by Association of American Medical Colleges

Honored for excellence in medical student career development

September 28, 2018

Kathryn Diemer, MD, an assistant dean for career counseling and a professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will receive the 2018 Excellence in Medical Student Career Advising Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges on Nov. 2 in Austin, Texas.

The organization’s Careers in Medicine program is honoring Diemer for her extraordinary commitment to the success of medical students. In her counseling role, she advises medical students on career choices and on the residency selection process that culminates in Match Day. She has been in the role at Washington University since 2000.

“Dean Diemer gives tirelessly to our students as an adviser, advocate and mentor,” said Eva Aagaard, MD, the School of Medicine’s senior associate dean for education and the Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Professor of Medical Education. “She has built an incredibly successful career development program. She gives her absolute all to ensure that our students are engaged, prepared and supported throughout the career decision and match process and even beyond graduation. I already have heard from multiple graduates about the impact she has had on them as individuals both during their time here and since.”

In addition to her career counseling role, Diemer is a nationally recognized expert in osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
