Future physicians receive white coats, take class oath
Classmates write then recite oath promising honesty, integrity
Huy Mach and Gaia RemerowskiFirst-year students at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis participated Friday, Sept. 8, in the traditional White Coat Ceremony — a rite of passage in which future physicians are welcomed to the school and the medical profession.
In addition to receiving their white coats in a ceremony at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Medical Campus, the 124 newly minted medical students — 26 of whom are enrolled in the MD/PhD program — recited an oath promising honesty and integrity. They wrote the oath as a class.
