Ludmerer receives distinguished service award

Recognized for commitment to medical education, training residents

November 11, 2021

Kenneth M. Ludmerer, MD, a professor of medicine and the Mabel Dorn Reeder Distinguished Professor of the History of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the 2022 John C. Gienapp Distinguished Service Award. The honor is awarded by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The award honors individuals who have dedicated their careers to graduate medical education and have made significant contributions to the enhancement of residency and fellowship education, as well as ACGME accreditation activities. The organization recognized Ludmerer for his commitment to training residents and for serving as an ambassador for medical education. A professor of medicine and of history, Ludmerer is noted for chronicling the residency experience, for amplifying the importance of clinician well-being, and for his vital role in developing the current ACGME Common Program Requirements.

Ludmerer and his award will be featured at the organization’s annual educational conference, which will be held virtually March 30 and April 1.
