MEDIA ADVISORY: National Cancer Institute director to visit Medical Campus on Feb. 27
Newly appointed NCI director Norman E. 'Ned' Sharpless, MD, to deliver keynote address, lead town hall
Who: Norman E. “Ned” Sharpless, MD, took the helm of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) – the nation’s principal agency for funding cancer research – in October.
What: Sharpless will offer his insight on the NCI’s research enterprise as a keynote speaker at the second annual Bursky Center symposium on human immunology and immunotherapies. In a separate town hall meeting, he’ll offer his perspectives on the NCI and provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. Following the town hall, Sharpless will be available to answer reporters’ questions.
Where: The Bursky Center symposium will be held in the Eric P. Newman Education Center, 320 S. Euclid Ave., St. Louis, Mo. 63110 (map). The town hall meeting, co-sponsored by Siteman Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated cancer center in Missouri, will be held in Connor Auditorium in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center (map). Both events are open to the public.
When: Sharpless will give his keynote address at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27; the town hall meeting will be held from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m., followed by media interviews from 3:30 – 3:50 p.m.
