Orthopedic injury clinic to open in south St. Louis County
Clinic is 2nd operated by Washington University, Barnes-Jewish Hospital
Getty ImagesWashington University Orthopedics and Barnes-Jewish Hospital have opened an Orthopedic Injury Clinic in south St. Louis County, inside the Center for Advanced Medicine. This is the second such clinic. The first opened in 2013 in Chesterfield.
Due to high demand for injury-related care at the Orthopedic Injury Clinic in Chesterfield, Washington University Orthopedics and Barnes-Jewish Hospital have opened a second location — in south St. Louis County, inside the Center for Advanced Medicine. The new south St. Louis County Orthopedic Injury Clinic opens Sept. 1 at 5201 Midamerica Plaza, Suite 1500.
The Chesterfield injury clinic opened in 2013 to help joggers, cyclists, weekend warriors and participants in other sports who find themselves quickly in need of an X-ray, cast or splint. The south St. Louis County injury clinic is opening with the same goals in mind.
The walk-in clinics require no appointment and are staffed by Washington University orthopedic specialists. Services offered include X-rays, casting and splinting. Injuries such as jammed fingers, dislocated joints, knee swelling, toe fractures and foot sprains are examples of conditions treated at the clinic.
“There are many benefits to this type of clinic, and I am excited that we now are bringing these medical services to patients in south St. Louis County,” said Rick Wright, MD, the Jerome J. Gilden Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. “Typically, being able to be seen by an orthopedic expert the day of an injury is unusual, but that’s not the case with the injury clinics. Further, clinic patients will be able to schedule follow-up visits before they head home. Another source of pride for us is that most patients are in and out of the clinic in less than an hour.”
Patients who visit the injury clinics can pay a specialty co-pay for services rather than the typically higher fees charged for an urgent care or emergency room visit.
Hours for the clinic in south St. Louis County are noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and noon to 6 p.m. Fridays. The clinic in Chesterfield is open from noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; noon to 6 p.m. Fridays; and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
