Radiation oncology names vice chair
Mutic to serve as vice chair of medical physics and clinical strategy
Sasa Mutic, PhD, a professor of radiation oncology, has been named vice chair of medical physics and clinical strategy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Mutic, also director of the Medical Physics Division in the Department of Radiation Oncology and a Siteman Cancer Center research member, is a national leader in developing protocols and automated systems to ensure patient safety and quality control in the delivery of radiation therapy. He is a co-principle investigator of a national quality assurance grant for the U.S. Veterans Administration. Also, he cofounded the medical physics quality-assurance company Radialogica and has been honored for his entrepreneurship activities by the St. Louis Business Journal.
“Dr. Mutic has played a key role in our physics division for almost 20 years, starting as a medical physics resident and then joining the faculty in 1998,” said Dennis E. Hallahan, MD, the Elizabeth H. and James S. McDonnell III Distinguished Professor of Medicine and head of the Department of Radiation Oncology. “Dr. Mutic has demonstrated outstanding leadership and expertise in his field. In this new role, he will take on additional administrative duties and will ensure our physics division continues to progress.”
