Sandell honored by Osteoarthritis Research Society
Co-director of Musculoskeletal Research Center receives lifetime achievement award

Linda J. Sandell, PhD, the Mildred B. Simon Professor or Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Osteoarthritis Research Society International.
Sandell is co-director of the Musculoskeletal Research Center and of research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. She was chosen to receive the society’s Lifetime Achievement Award following years of research into the causes of osteoarthritis. The award was presented March 31 at the annual meeting of the society in Amsterdam.
The award is given to people who have devoted much of their careers to the advancement of science associated with osteoarthritis. Sandell’s laboratory studies gene regulation of proteins that influence cartilage, bone and other tissues, and she has done extensive work in analyzing the cellular mechanisms that are key to understanding osteoarthritis.
Sandell, who also is a professor of cell biology and physiology and of biomedical engineering, served as president of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International from 2010 to 2013.
