Timothy J. Eberlein, MD

Elected to American College of Surgeons Board of Regents

Timothy J. Eberlein, MD, the Bixby Professor of Surgery and head of the Department of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been elected a member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

The Board of Regents is the senior-most governing board of the ACS.

Eberlein is editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons and has been active in many leadership roles for the ACS. A fellow since 1988, he has served on several ACS committees, most recently on the Board of Governors from 2004-10.

He also has served on the Committee to Study the Fiscal Affairs of the College and the Missouri Credentials Committee. Additionally, he has served on the Commission on Cancer; the Commission on Cancer’s Committee on Education; the Scientific Forum Committee, including two years as vice chair; and the Surgical Research Committee.

As chair of the Research and Education Committee, Eberlein worked with Olga Jonasson, MD, the first woman in the United States to chair an academic department of surgery, to establish the ACS clinical trials course. In addition, he served on the ACS Program Committee.

At Washington University, Eberlein is also the Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Distinguished Professor and director of the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
