Uy named leukemia committee co-chair of clinical trials group
Selected by Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology
Geoffrey Uy, MD, a professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named co-chair of the Leukemia Committee of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology.
He was selected after an international search by the alliance, which promotes collaboration between scientists and clinicians in the treatment of cancer through clinical trials. Uy and fellow co-chair, Wendy Stock, MD, of the University of Chicago, will help oversee the development of new clinical approaches to leukemia.
“With this appointment, I can further address and more broadly impact the outcomes of patients with leukemia,” said Uy, who also is a research member of Siteman Cancer Center, based at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the School of Medicine. “I look forward to contributing my vision to the alliance and its translational research.”
A bone marrow transplant specialist at Siteman, Uy also is medical director for clinical research in the Division of Oncology at the School of Medicine. His research centers on the development of new therapies for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a group of cancers that occur when the blood-forming cells in bone marrow become abnormal.
