Wilcox appointed committee chair by research institute
Will lead in strengthening reliability of patient-centered research

Adam Wilcox, PhD, a professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named the chair of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Methodology Committee. PCORI is a leading funder of patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research in the U.S., funding studies that compare two or more medical treatments, services or health practices to help patients make more informed health decisions.
Over a decade ago, the committee was created and authorized by Congress to develop recommendations and standards for inclusive, cutting-edge methods for rigorous patient-centered research studies. Wilcox and the committee will continue work to develop and update the standards for research methods to guide study design and data analysis.
Wilcox is also director of the Center for Applied Clinical Informatics at Washington University’s Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics. His work in clinical informatics – the use of technology to streamline health-care protocols and improve patient care – involves designing and developing sustainable technological infrastructure for researchers and health-care providers to analyze and manage research and patient records.
